Getting Around Bar: Walkability, Public Transit & Biking

Bar is a small, compact city that is quite walkable. The central area, where most daily activities happen, is densely packed with shops, restaurants, and a lively seaside promenade. Getting to popular spots like the Susanj beaches is a simple 30-minute walk, making it convenient for travelers without a car. The flat terrain throughout most of the city makes walking around comfortable and accessible.

Bar offers a basic public transportation system that mainly consists of buses connecting the city center to the suburbs and nearby attractions, like Stari Bar. While these buses are generally inexpensive, their schedules are not very frequent. Intercity connections are more robust, with buses and trains linking to other major Montenegrin cities. However, travelers should not wholly rely on public transit due to its less frequent and sometimes unpredictable nature. Taxis are a more flexible option, although prices should be negotiated.

Bike infrastructure in Bar is sparse, with few dedicated bike lanes. While cycling is feasible on secondary roads with lighter traffic, the main coastal routes are crowded and pose risks, especially during peak tourist times. The hilly terrain in certain areas also presents a challenge for cyclists. Despite some recent attempts to improve bike-friendliness, much of the infrastructure still lacks the connectivity and safety that travelers might expect.
