Lafayette's walkability is best around the downtown area and the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, where travelers can find a range of cafes, shops, and attractions within walking distance. However, many other parts of the city remain car-dependent and lack consistent sidewalk availability, making pedestrian travel challenging. Travelers should be prepared to rely on other forms of transportation to explore beyond these walkable pockets.

The Lafayette Transit System provides basic public transport services with fixed bus routes that are somewhat accessible for travelers. However, the coverage is limited, with fewer services during holidays and evenings, and longer headways between buses.
