Travelers will find walking feasible for short distances in town but challenging for longer travel or errands.

Public transit options are minimal in Pohnpei, with no formal bus or transit systems. Travelers are often reliant on taxis, which, while affordable, may not be consistently available or timely. Some accommodations offer limited shuttle services, adding a degree of convenience but not entirely substituting for a robust transit system. To effectively explore Kolonia and its surroundings, renting a vehicle is recommended, which poses a challenge for those strictly dependent on public transport.

Biking in Pohnpei is feasible but not ideal due to the lack of dedicated infrastructure such as bike lanes. Travelers considering cycling will face uneven road conditions, with many roads featuring potholes or being unpaved, especially outside of Kolonia. The island's hilly terrain and frequent rainfall further complicate biking, making it more suited for adventure rather than everyday commutes.
