Roxboro is largely car-dependent, but the Uptown area offers some walkable features with local amenities and historic sites. While you can enjoy strolling in the downtown core, many errands will require a car due to the limited pedestrian-friendly infrastructure outside the city center.
Roxboro provides limited public transportation options through the Person Area Transportation System (PATS), which requires rides to be booked in advance and has restricted service hours. Although there is a free shuttle covering Uptown, the lack of frequent and spontaneous service makes public transit impractical for many travelers.
While Roxboro offers scenic low-traffic roads that are enjoyable for cycling, bike infrastructure remains underdeveloped. Efforts are being made to introduce more bike lanes, and the community is active in promoting cycling. However, the current lack of comprehensive bike lanes makes biking challenging for essential commuting.
