Rustaq, with its historic significance, offers limited walkability. Key areas such as the vicinity around the Rustaq Fort and the traditional souq are pedestrian-friendly, making them somewhat suitable for casual exploration. However, for everyday errands or exploring other parts of Rustaq, walking isn't ideal due to the lack of extensive pedestrian infrastructure. While there are ongoing efforts to enhance walkability through projects like "City Walk," these developments are still in their infancy, thus currently the town isn't very accommodating for travelers relying on foot.

Public transportation in Rustaq is somewhat limited, presenting a challenge for travelers relying on it. While buses do connect Rustaq with larger cities like Muscat, their frequency and reliability can be issues for daily travel. Within Rustaq, public transport options are sparse, causing reliance on taxis or private vehicles. Efforts like occasional bus services on weekends offer some aid, but overall, the town's public transit infrastructure does not support easy navigation for everyday commuting.

Biking around Rustaq is plausible but presents some challenges due to a lack of dedicated infrastructure. While some roads are paved and offer a direct path to locations like Nizwa, others, especially in rugged wadi areas, are less conducive to biking. This rough terrain, combined with the absence of bike lanes and the potential for high traffic, makes biking a less safe option for regular commutes. It can serve recreational purposes for the more adventurous traveler, but isn't recommended as a primary form of transportation.
