Sumgait is not very walkable due to its car-dependent nature. The city layout often involves long distances between residential, commercial, and industrial areas, making it challenging to accomplish daily errands on foot. Some improvements in pedestrian infrastructure are present, notably around key locations like Heydar Aliyev Park, but these are exceptions rather than the rule. For travelers, maneuvering the city largely requires some form of transport, especially beyond a few walkable spots.

Public transportation in Sumgait offers basic connectivity primarily through buses and suburban rail to Baku. However, the overall network within the city is not extensive, and the discontinued tram and trolleybus services reflect limitations in public transit options. Taxis are available and relatively affordable, but relying solely on buses or the train limits ease of movement and could restrict travelers to more accessible routes and schedules.

Biking in Sumgait is somewhat viable due to certain cycling routes and a trail on the Novkhani-Sumgait road. However, comprehensive bike infrastructure isn't widespread, and cycling is generally seen more as a recreational activity rather than a practical mode of daily transport. This limits the convenience and safety of biking as a primary travel method for visitors navigating the city.
