Basel is a walker's paradise. The old town is incredibly pedestrian-friendly with many car-free zones and narrow, winding streets perfect for exploration. Most attractions are within walking distance. Plus, the city is relatively flat, making it easy to get around on foot. You'll find plenty of cafes, shops, and other amenities within easy walking distance, making it convenient for daily life and errands. Even attractions a bit further out are still easily accessible on foot or via a short tram ride.

Basel boasts an exceptional public transportation system. The city and surrounding areas have a network known for punctuality, short wait times and modern vehicles. The trams and buses cover the city extensively, and the BaselCard, often included with hotel stays, grants free access to the entire network. Trams even cross international borders, making it easy to explore nearby regions in France and Germany. This makes Basel an excellent base for exploring not only the city itself but also the surrounding region.
