Brasília was originally designed to cater to vehicles rather than pedestrians, resulting in long distances between attractions, shops, and residential areas. Though neighborhoods like Asa Sul and Asa Norte offer some walkability with their own commercial areas, most of the city isn't pedestrian-friendly. The Monumental Axis offers some pedestrian pathways, but overall, walking can be taxing due to the vast and spread-out layout that necessitates lengthy strolls between points. For travelers, accomplishing daily errands on foot can be cumbersome and time-consuming.

Brasília boasts a public transit system that includes buses and a metro, which together cover key parts of the city, connecting places like the airport and the city center. The metro is efficient for short trips within its reach, while the bus service connects various areas, albeit with some reliability issues due to inconsistent scheduling. For travelers, using public transit is a feasible option within the central areas, but its overall limited reach often necessitates supplementary transport like taxis or ride-sharing services for convenience and efficiency, especially after sunset.

While Brasília offers an extensive network of about 550 km of cycle paths, these are often fragmented and fail to connect seamlessly across the city. The generally flat terrain and active cycling community enhance the experience, but cyclists often find the infrastructure lacks cohesion and sometimes must share roads with vehicles, which can feel unsafe. For travelers, biking is a pleasant option for exploring local neighborhoods or recreational rides, but it may not be the best mode for commuting across the expansive city, where infrastructure gaps pose challenges.
