Cagliari offers a somewhat walkable experience, primarily within its historic center, which includes areas like Castello, Marina, Stampace, and Villanova. These neighborhoods are known for their narrow, charming streets that are pedestrian-friendly, allowing travelers to easily explore the local cafes, restaurants, and shops. However, the city's hilly terrain can be challenging for those on foot, especially when venturing outside the central districts, like to the popular Poetto beach. While many daily activities can be accomplished on foot in central areas, additional transportation is often necessary for a broader exploration.

Cagliari boasts a good public transportation system that includes buses, trams (Metrocagliari), and trains, facilitating travel within the city and to surrounding areas. Buses are frequent and widely cover Cagliari, with convenient access to locations like Poetto beach, while trams offer a scenic ride albeit with limited coverage of tourist spots.
