Faro's city center, especially the Old Town, is designed with pedestrians in mind, featuring cobblestone streets and a compact layout perfect for leisurely exploration. The density of cafes, shops, and historical sites allows travelers to accomplish daily tasks easily on foot. The presence of pedestrian-friendly promenades and free walking tours further supports its walkability, making Faro an easy place to navigate without needing a car.

Faro's public transit system, primarily composed of the 'Próximo' buses, offers extensive coverage of the city, including key areas like the airport and beaches. Though lacking a metro, the central locations of the bus and train stations facilitate convenient travel within Faro and to other parts of the Algarve. This makes public transit a useful option for travelers to explore both the city and surrounding region.

While Faro has some dedicated bike lanes and a generally flat terrain conducive to cycling, the infrastructure is not extensive enough to make it a top-tier biking city. Cycling is still a practical option for getting around town and reaching nearby beaches, with local authorities showing interest in improving bikeability further. However, it currently lacks the comprehensive network of dedicated lanes that would make it an ideal choice for all travelers.
