Guwahati offers a somewhat walkable experience, especially in certain areas like the Assam Trunk Road, where daily errands can be accomplished on foot. However, several challenges affect overall walkability, such as narrow or obstructed footpaths that force pedestrians into traffic, encroachments by street vendors, and a lack of pedestrian safety as vehicles often disregard pedestrian rights. Despite these issues, some neighborhoods provide adequate conditions for walking.

Guwahati's public transport is adequate, primarily consisting of buses operated by the Assam State Transport Corporation and water transport on the Brahmaputra River. While efforts like mobile ticketing aim to improve experiences, challenges such as long waiting times, overcrowding, and erratic schedules persist. Alternative options like auto-rickshaws and taxis enhance availability, but the overall share of public transport remains low relative to its population size, which limits its effectiveness for travelers.

Biking in Guwahati is somewhat feasible, as the flat terrain is conducive to cycling. However, cyclists face significant challenges due to the lack of dedicated cycling infrastructure and the associated risks from traffic congestion and speeding vehicles. Although there are a few scenic routes outside the city center, the absence of safe and designated cycling paths makes biking less appealing for travelers looking to explore the city this way.
