Ioannina is renowned for its pedestrian-friendly environment, particularly in the central areas and around Lake Pamvotida. Pedestrian streets and an abundance of amenities such as cafes, shops, and historical sights make it easy to explore on foot. The city’s compact nature allows travelers to manage most of their daily activities without needing a vehicle, creating a convenient and pleasant walking experience.

The bus system in Ioannina connects key parts of the city and provides links to major cities like Athens and Thessaloniki. However, the public transport options might not match the frequency and coverage seen in larger urban areas. While taxis supplement public transit effectively, the bus network is not extensive enough to offer complete reliability, potentially necessitating other modes of transportation for full mobility.

Ioannina is working towards enhancing its bikeability with the introduction of e-bikes and some cycling infrastructure.
