Downtown Jackson is the most walkable area in the city, offering a somewhat compact and accessible environment for travelers. However, the overall size and scope of the downtown area are limited, meaning that walking may not be a convenient way to access all amenities and services. Outside of downtown, a car becomes necessary for most errands and exploration, as the city's layout does not prioritize pedestrian pathways.

The public transit system in Jackson, called JTRAN, offers fixed-route and paratransit bus services, but its limitations can be a challenge for travelers relying on public transport. With buses running mostly Monday through Saturday and limited to hourly schedules, planning trips around the transit system might be restrictive. The primary hub, Union Station, connects routes, but options remain limited, particularly during weekends and holidays.

Biking in Jackson is feasible with some existing bike paths and lanes, particularly near downtown. However, the infrastructure is not fully developed, which might deter travelers looking for a bike-friendly city experience. While terrain isn't challenging, the lack of comprehensive bike support and moderate traffic levels can make biking less appealing as a primary mode of transportation.
