Kathmandu offers mixed walkability; while neighborhoods like Thamel are vibrant and walkable, many areas lack proper sidewalks and face high traffic congestion. Air pollution and safety concerns further complicate pedestrian navigation. Travelers will enjoy walking in tourist hubs but may need to rely on other transport modes for longer distances.

Kathmandu's public transit system includes affordable buses and microbuses covering extensive routes. However, chaotic schedules and limited route information can make navigation challenging. Traffic congestion and overcrowding are common, although ride-sharing options offer a more convenient albeit costlier alternative for travelers.

Biking in Kathmandu is difficult due to inadequate bike infrastructure and heavy traffic. Cyclists face poorly maintained roads and disrespect from other road users. While the flat terrain is suitable for biking, air pollution poses health risks. Efforts to improve cycling conditions are ongoing, but biking is currently impractical for most transportation needs.
