Getting Around Lagos: Walkability, Public Transit & Biking

Lagos boasts a compact and well-preserved historic center with charming cobblestone streets that are ideal for pedestrians. Many key attractions, shops, restaurants, and cafes are easily accessible on foot. The marina and several beaches are also within walking distance of the town center. You can explore the old town, enjoy coastal trails like those leading to Ponta da Piedade, and reach beaches without needing a car. The boardwalk along Meia Praia also offers a scenic walking route. While some hills exist, the general layout favors walking, making it easy to run daily errands and explore the town.

Lagos has a local bus network called "A Onda" that connects the parish councils and beach areas, including Meia Praia and Porto de Mós. Buses are equipped with air conditioning and are wheelchair-friendly. There are also buses that connect Lagos to other towns in the Algarve, as well as to Faro (including the airport) and Lisbon. The train station provides connections to other parts of Portugal. While the local bus schedules may require some planning, public transit offers a viable option for reaching areas outside the immediate town center.

Lagos offers a mix of bike-friendly conditions. There are dedicated mountain bike trails in the surrounding areas, with the "MTB Center of Lagos" being the first homologated center in the Algarve. However, information on extensive bike lane networks within the town itself is limited. The terrain can be hilly in certain areas, posing a challenge for some cyclists. Biking can be a good option for reaching nearby beaches and exploring the coastline, but you might encounter some gaps in dedicated infrastructure and need to be mindful of traffic in certain areas.
