Getting Around Naples: Walkability, Public Transit & Biking

Naples is a walker's paradise, especially in its historic center where everything is tightly packed, vibrant, and ideally explored on foot. The city offers pedestrian-only zones and a wealth of historical sites, cafes, shops, and cultural attractions within easy reach. Navigating on foot is generally manageable, despite some hilly terrains, thanks to comfortable pathways and a densely packed layout.

With a comprehensive transit system offering metro lines, buses, trams, and funiculars, Naples is well-connected for travelers. The metro system efficiently reaches key areas, and hilltop districts are easily accessible by funiculars. While traffic can impact bus schedules, the integrated Unico Campania passes simplify travel. The variety of transport methods allows easy navigation to main attractions without needing a car.

While Naples has some bike lanes on flat areas like the waterfront, the city is generally not very bike-friendly. The lack of comprehensive bike infrastructure, narrow streets, heavy traffic, and chaotic driving norms make biking challenging and somewhat unsafe. For daily commuting or errands, using a bike may not be the most practical option, even though bike tours can offer a fun way to explore.
