Port Coquitlam is somewhat walkable, particularly in its central areas where restaurants, shops, and amenities are accessible on foot. This makes it convenient for errands and leisurely strolls within these neighborhoods. However, reaching other areas of the city often requires transportation due to a layout that isn't fully optimized for walking. That said, newer developments show a trend towards better walkability, but on the whole, the city isn't yet a walker's paradise.
Port Coquitlam provides decent public transit options, with the West Coast Express offering direct train service to Vancouver which is a major hub for travelers. Additionally, buses link to the SkyTrain at Coquitlam Central Station, broadening the transit network. While future plans for a SkyTrain extension may enhance connectivity, currently, getting around the broader Metro Vancouver can be time-intensive due to the need for coordinating multiple transit modes.
Port Coquitlam is reasonably bike-friendly, having invested in cycling infrastructure such as multi-use paths and dedicated bike lanes. The flat terrain is conducive to biking, making it easier for travelers to explore the city by bicycle. Nevertheless, while the infrastructure is recognized with awards, there are areas where gaps exist, limiting the feasibility for all trips, and not all routes are fully equipped for cycling.
