Roseburg is generally car-dependent, except for the downtown area which offers some walkability with its restaurants, shops, and entertainment venues. However, outside the downtown core, neighborhoods are primarily residential and spread out, making it difficult to access amenities like coworking spaces or a variety of cafes without a vehicle. While there are lively parts of downtown, the city overall lacks comprehensive pedestrian-friendly infrastructure.
Roseburg's public transit system, UTrans, offers limited fixed routes and commuter services. Although about 70% of residents are within 2 miles of a bus stop, the service is restricted to certain areas and runs on a limited schedule. The lack of comprehensive routes and infrequent service makes it challenging for travelers to rely on public transit for convenient access to various destinations across the city.
Roseburg provides some bike infrastructure, with efforts to expand the bike route system and utilize trails like the Umpqua River Trail. While this makes biking for recreation a pleasant experience, using a bicycle as the main mode of transport can be difficult due to inconsistent connectivity and safety issues on busy roads. Although ongoing projects aim to address these gaps, the city isn't fully equipped for seamless everyday biking just yet.
