Skopje boasts a walkable city center, particularly around the Old Bazaar and Macedonia Square, offering a mix of historical attractions and modern amenities that are best explored on foot. Although the city has some areas with heavy traffic and wide boulevards, the compact layout of its central districts allows travelers to enjoy a rich array of shops, cafes, and architectural landmarks without needing a vehicle. Be mindful of the uneven sidewalks and occasional crowds, especially in high-traffic areas.

Skopje offers an extensive bus network with modern double-decker buses providing 24-hour service, making it relatively easy to navigate the city without a personal vehicle. Travelers can benefit from the affordable local Skopska bus card, though the cashless system may require a learning curve, particularly for first-time visitors.
