Downtown Spokane is notably walkable with a concentration of amenities such as restaurants, cafes, and shops. Its design allows travelers to accomplish day-to-day tasks conveniently on foot within central neighborhoods like Riverside, Emerson Garfield, and Cliff Cannon. However, the city experiences urban sprawl, leading to some districts being more vehicle-dependent. While efforts are underway to improve pedestrian infrastructure, areas outside the core may still require a mode of transport for certain errands.

Spokane is equipped with a reliable public transit system, primarily operated by the Spokane Transit Authority, which offers numerous bus routes connecting key areas like colleges and hospitals. The recent launch of the City Line BRT provides a significant boost to transit connectivity, particularly along key corridors such as Downtown and the University District. However, coverage and frequency might not always meet the needs of travelers in more distant neighborhoods, potentially necessitating alternative transportation methods.
