Taoyuan presents areas such as the Taoyuan City Centre and Zhongli District, which offer a moderately walkable environment, with numerous shops, restaurants, and attractions nearby. These districts allow travelers to explore many local amenities on foot. However, the city's larger layout means that other residential or industrial areas may require vehicles to reach, as they are more spread out. Despite some compact pockets, walking may need to be supplemented with public transport for greater convenience.

Taoyuan's public transit is robust, thanks in part to the Taoyuan Airport MRT, which offers seamless connectivity to Taipei and throughout the city. In addition, the Taiwan High-Speed Rail (HSR) enhances accessibility to other major cities in Taiwan. Buses cover an extensive network, though they may require a learning curve for new travelers. Ongoing improvements, like the expanding metro system, promise better accessibility in the near future, making Taoyuan largely transit-friendly for travelers.

Taoyuan supports cycling with dedicated paths like the Nankan Creek Riverbank Bike Trail, offering scenic, traffic-free routes for leisure activities. The generally flat terrain of the area supports easy biking, though cyclists may find city navigation less convenient due to limited bike lanes and shared roads with vehicles. While biking is feasible for recreation or short errands, more infrastructural support is needed for it to be a primary mode of transportation throughout the city.
