Getting Around Victoria: Walkability, Public Transit & Biking

Victoria in Seychelles is known for being a compact and walkable city, with many attractions, markets, and restaurants conveniently located within a small area. Travelers can enjoy an easy and pleasant experience exploring the city center on foot, completing daily errands or simply enjoying the local sights. However, it's important to note that the hilly terrain surrounding the central area might pose a challenge for some, and accessing more remote spots or visiting beaches may require alternative forms of transportation.

Victoria has a basic but functional public bus system operated by the Seychelles Public Transport Corporation (SPTC), with most routes centered around the Victoria Terminal. Buses are an affordable option for travelers, last only until early evening, which may limit plans that extend beyond these times. Taxis are available as an alternative but might be expensive. While the buses do provide necessary connectivity, their limited schedules and coverage can pose challenges for exploring the island fully.

Cycling in Victoria and the larger island of Mahé presents a few challenges. Roads are narrow and lack dedicated bike lanes, and the terrain can be quite hilly, which can deter daily commuting by bike. Moreover, traffic can be heavy, especially in and around the city center. While some accommodations might offer bike rentals, they are often for use in and around the property, limiting broader explorations.
