Zakynthos Town, the island's primary urban area, is the most pedestrian-friendly spot, with several pedestrian streets, lively squares, and local shops easily accessible on foot. However, outside the town and a few surrounding villages, walking becomes impractical due to the spread-out nature of the island's attractions. Travelers will find that many of the beaches, historical sites, and scenic points require vehicle access. Hence, while some areas are pleasant for a stroll, exploring the full beauty of Zakynthos necessitates having other forms of transportation.

Public transport on Zakynthos mainly operates through the local bus service (KTEL), with routes connecting popular tourist destinations like Tsilivi, Laganas, and Vassilikos to Zakynthos Town. While these buses offer a budget-friendly way to see some of the island's highlights, their coverage is limited. Services are less frequent to off-the-beaten-path attractions, and some routes only run seasonally. As such, travelers relying on public transit may miss out on exploring the island in its entirety.

Zakynthos offers bike rentals and some scenic cycling routes, but the island's hilly terrain can pose a challenge for less experienced cyclists. Even though cycling enthusiasts can enjoy limited rides in flatter areas, the narrow and often congested roads make biking a less advisable option for traversing the island. Many picturesque spots are better accessed by car or ATV, making biking a supplementary rather than primary transportation method for travelers.
